Dear Class,
Post your science autobiographies here, and please comment on at least two of your classmates' posts.
My science autobiography:
My dad was an engineering and helped me with my mathematics, which I really liked. In middle school we had field trips to biology field sites and really enjoyed what I learned in and outside the classroom. I took biology, anatomy & physiology, and physics in high school and really liked them. In college I took a natural science course that focused on evolution and the extinction of dinosaurs, but nothing more from the "hard sciences." But, I loved thinking about medicine and especially ethical issues in science and medicine and so I went to graduate school to study medical ethics. I ended up studying philosophy of science for my Ph.D. My dissertation looked at feminist criticism in philosophy of science, particularly in computer science. Here at Thomas More, I try to hang out with the scientists as much as possible and in my professional research and teaching I focus on medical ethics, research ethics, death & dying, and philosophy of science.
I love philosophy of science and cannot wait to delve more into this course material with you!
